If there's one thing we know about the Duffer brothers, classic sex movies it's that they are ~concerned~ with authenticity. Just look at the analog synth soundtrack they had commissioned to score the '80's series, or the reference to a gaming deep cut in the episode titles. And most important of all: the super sick '80's fashion.
Which is why the brothers Duffer went to extra lengths to get the Halloween costumes of everyone's favorite Hawkins boy gang in Stranger Things 2, which comes out on Friday Oct. 27, just right.
SEE ALSO: Hype yourself up for 'Stranger Things 2' with the official soundtrackAccording to Entertainment Weekly, Stranger Things 2opens on Halloween night of 1984. Mike and da boiz are obviously dressed as the Ghostbusters - appropriate both because the classic film came out in 1984 and these characters clearly would have loved that movie, and because they have some experience purging the spirit world of demons themselves.
But apparently getting the authentic costumes was no easy feat. Matt Duffer told EWthat they had to speak with Ghostbustersdirector Ivan Reitman and star/co-writer Dan Aykroyd directly in order to get permission to showcase the costumes onscreen.
As reported Ghostbustersfans, Ross and Matt Duffer apparently nerded out a bit about their encounter with Reitman and Aykroyd — but the Ghostbusterscreators returned the favor. As Duffer tells EW:
“[Reitman] said it was flattering,” says Matt Duffer. “He read the scripts. He had seen the first season or at least had heard of it or pretended like he had. But they were really into being part of the show. Then they sent us all these Ghostbusters toys at the end of the shoot. That’s one of my top 5 most worn-out VHS tapes.”
You can bet Mike, Will, Dustin, and Lucas would get some good wear and tear on the classic, too. As long as they can manage to stay out of The Upside Down this season... but don't count on it.
