How, you might ask? With groundbreaking changes to the platform, that's how. The company explained its newly refreshed product in a shiny new blog post. In short, Twitter promises going forward things will be different.
"Today, with lots of feedback and ideas from you, we’re refreshing our product too and making it feel lighter, faster, and easier to use," Twitter said in a statement. "We listened closely and kept what you love. And for the things you didn’t, we took a new approach to fix and make better."
So what's actually changed? The "like," "retweet," and "reply" icons all received a makeover, as did users' profile pics, which are now circular.
"We’ve refined our typography to make it more consistent, and added bolder headlines to make it easier to focus on what’s happening," explained the press release. "Also, rounded profile photos make it clearer to see what’s being said and who’s saying it."

So there you have it, folks. Twenty-seventeen will forever be known as the year that Twitter finally got things right. It only took 11 years to make it happen.
But hey, that's just a testament to the determination of Twitter's users and a reminder that if you push hard enough for a company to address the crippling harassment on its platform, then it just might make your profile picture round. Bravo, Twitter!
