The Hate U Give, the debut novel of author Angie Thomas, hit shelves today and is the buzziest non-sequel to hit the YA world in some time.
Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, The Hate U Givefollows sixteen-year-old Starr Carter, a girl caught between two worlds. One is the poor black neighborhood where she lives, the other the rich suburban prep school she attends. But when Starr's childhood best friend is killed by a police officer, an act Starr witnesses, she's thrust into the turmoil and the national story her neighborhood becomes.
Thomas' novel may be her first, and it may have only just gone on sale, but it's already getting rave responses (and it's already been optioned as a movie starring YA adaptation queen Amandla Stenberg). You can get your copy online or in stores starting today.
