Moana 2, the sequel to the beloved Oscar-nominated film about an adventurous Polynesian teen on a quest to save her people, is finally coming to Disney+.
The film had an interesting journey to the big screen. Originally meant to be a Disney+ TV series before being reworked into a feature film, it ended up being a major hit, setting a new Thanksgiving box office record and becoming the third-biggest movie of the year.
Now the film is floating to Disney+ for its streaming debut. Here's everything you need to know to watch and sing along at home.
The new sequel from the team of David Derrick, Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller reunites Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho) with demigod trickster Maui (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) for a brand new voyage into uncharted territory. After an unexpected vision from her wayfinding ancestors, they strike out for the legendary island of Motufetu alongside a new crew. The island is farther than she or any of her ancestors have ever gotten. Not to mention, it's cursed.

Audiences embraced Moana 2with open arms. It made more than $1 billion at the box office and became the third highest-grossing movie of 2024. Critics, on the other hand, are more on the fence. While the Disney sequel holds an 86 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it only holds a 61 percent critics score. Mashable's Belen Edwards described the film in her review as "almost as great as the original, except for one big thing."
"With its beautiful, textured animation and its propulsive adventure to the far ends of the ocean, Moana 2is another win for Disney animation. The only major letdown? The film's songs, which are totally OK, but certainly nothing special compared to Moana's greatest hits," she writes.

Moana 2is set to make its streaming debut on March 12on none other than Disney+ — the streaming home of all Disney films, including the O.G. Moana.
Not yet a Disney+ subscriber? Subscriptions start at $9.99 after a price hike last year, but we've rounded up a few of the best ways you can save some money on the streaming service below.
Disney+ recently hiked its prices up from $7.99 to $9.99 with ads and $13.99 to $15.99 without ads. If you only want to sign up for Disney+, you can still save some money on a subscription by signing up for an annual plan up front. With a yearly plan without ads, you'll pay just $159.99 per year, which breaks down to $13.33 per month instead of $15.99 per month. That's about 17% in savings. When you check out, be sure to select Disney+ Premium, then "annual" to secure the discount for the year.
If you want the most bang for your buck, Disney's bundle deals are hard to beat. You can bundle Disney+ and Hulu for just $10.99 per month with ads, which basically gets you Disney+ for $1 per month (44% in savings). You can also add Max (with ads) or ESPN+ into the mix for a grand total of $16.99 per month. Even though you'll have to deal with ads, you'll still save a boatload. To watch without ads, you'll have to pay an extra $9 per month for the Disney+ and Hulu bundle and an extra $13 per month for the trio bundle.
Verizon Fios home internet users on the 2 Gig Streaming or 2 Gig Complete package can score a free year of Disney+ Premium (no ads), while those on the 1 Gig Streaming or 1 Gig Complete package can sign up for six free months. Check your plan and read about eligibility terms on the Verizon website to activate the offer. Either way, your trial will give you plenty of time to watch Moana 2and some other Disney favorites.
Verizon Wireless customers can get an outrageous deal on Disney+ through Verizon myPlan. Just add a Disney Bundle to your account through myPlan, which includes Disney+ Premium (no ads), Hulu (with ads), and ESPN+ (with ads). All three would regularly cost you $37.97 per month separately, but by signing up through this myPlan deal, you'll only pay $10 per month. Despite the recent price increase of all three streamers, the Verizon myPlan deal hasn't changed, making it an even better deal.
Total Wireless customers on the $60/month prepaid unlimited plan get Disney+ Premium (no ads) for free. No terms or trial periods. Just keep your account in good standing and you get Disney+ included with your account. If you cancel or switch your plan, your subscription will end as well. If you're on the $50/month prepaid unlimited plan, you're also eligible for six free months of Disney+. Want to extend your trial? Just upgrade to the $60/month plan.
