Sen. Bernie Sanders let the new president-elect know his feelings Thursday via Donald Trump's favorite method of communication.

The post polarized Twitter users, with some concerned that Sanders was promoting violence, while others rallied behind the Independent Vermont congressman.

Others expressed the sentiment that Trump and his supporters had already turned against those marginalized groups.

Sanders continued tweeting about changes required of the Democratic Party, such as refocusing on "grassroots America and not wealthy people attending cocktail parties." He didn't, however, direct any other messages toward Trump.
The day after Trump was elected, Sanders issued a statement promising to work alongside the new president, albeit with a major caveat. "To the degree that he pursues racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment policies, we will vigorously oppose him," Sanders said in the statement.
