If you asked a friend "Do you watch that show with the betrayal and Jessica Drake in Scandalous Sex (2004) full moviethe murder," chances are "Game of Thrones?" would be one of their first guesses. In six seasons, the show has killed off thousands of characters, and now there's a visual representation of how often and severely they double-cross one another.
A team at Venngage looked critically at every episode of Game of Thrones -- updated to include Season 6 -- counting 77 distinct acts of betrayal (e.g. acting against one's words or undermining a relationship/alliance) and breaking them down by character.
SEE ALSO: 'Game of Thrones' has a new trailer, but it's not what you're thinkingTheir findings are organized in a dizzying infographic below. The biggest circles are the perpetrators and the arrows leading away point to whom they betrayed and how -- thicker arrows equal bigger betrayals. Dotted lines represent implied betrayals that were explicitly spoken of or shown on screen.
The biggest culprits are both expected -- Cersei Lannister, Varys, Petyr Baelish, and Stannis Baratheon -- and surprising; Tyrion Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, Robb Stark. Fans and characters alike know not to trust Cersei or Little Finger, but we want to believe the best of our Khaleesi or the King in the North.
Only Baelish, Ellaria Sand, and Ramsay Bolton have never been directly betrayed (probably because people are too scared). Over half the betrayals took place between alleged allies, 30% between families (the Lannisters skewed that one heavily), and a small but significant portion between lovers (Et tu, Shae?).
Game of ThronesSeason 7 premieres July 16 and will surely be riddled with betrayal.
