Among the nominations for Best Actor announced Tuesday by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Taboo: Sister in law and Daughter in law (2025)Sciences was Casey Affleck, star of Manchester By The Sea and the target of lawsuits claiming he sexually harassed two women working on the set of his 2010 film I'm Still Here.
Affleck settled both cases out of court. Despite the allegations, however, the actor's chances at an Oscar seem high as ever, considering his Golden Globes win earlier this month. That hasn't made everyone happy.
Just after the nomination announcement, Fresh Off the Boat's Constance Wu used Twitter to call out Affleck and the Academy.

"Boys! BUY ur way of out trouble by settling out of court!" she tweeted sarcastically. "Just do a good acting job, thats all that matter! bc Art isn't about humanity, right?"
Wu also shared some thoughts she took down during a conversation with actor Peter Shinkoda on how she believes Affleck win would "be a nod" to President Donald Trump's election victory.
"Art doesn't exist for the sake of awards, but awards DO exist to honor all that art is trying to accomplish in life," she wrote. "So context matters. Because in acting, human life matters. It's why art exists. I know it's just an award but I guess I'm in this career, not for awards, but because the treatment of human life matters to me. So I stand the fuck up for it."
